The refinishing of Jah Freedom Recording Company’s new recording complex is getting close to completion.  The massive project has taken four major processes because being so close to the sea coast it took some experimentation and learning what kind of latex finish the building requires.  First we had to scrape off and chip the old paint from the behemoth sized building.  Two Painters worked for 6 weeks scraping, sanding, stripping, and chipping just to expose the original rendered concrete.  Upon completion of the wall stripping the painter made a slurry of a concrete bonding agent, cement, water and rough casting sand.  The mix was then painted on the entire building. This was done to give the building a rougher surface…The reason a rough surface is needed is because i have noticed that the salt air really works with the intense sun here in Jamaica to peel paint right off of the smooth buildings.  I experimented on a small place on the first floor veranda for 18 months before I decided to go ahead with this  process.  Upon completion of the application of the rough surface, the building was primed with a special concrete primer and then the color paints were applied in 2 – 3 thick coats.  The colors selected are pastel shades to complement the tropical surroundings and to make the building very easy on the eyes. The result though is magnificent and unique.  People have come to see the building and have commented on the unique qualities of the exterior finish. From the selection of colors to the process used to apply it…It has taken a long time but the end result is magnificent…Just the verandas remain to be repainted…then the building refinishing will be completed.  The next step is to begin the process of wiring and insulating the recording  studios.

Jah Freedom Recording Company is a unique recording facility located on Westland Mountain Road in Negril, Jamaica.  The concept (when completed) is a recording vacation resort for musicians coming for healthy inspiration while recording their musical projects in a place surrounded by nature and relaxing settings. The facility overlooks the Negril coastline with a breathtaking view of the ocean, the sailboats that sail past, the para sails, jet skiers and the relaxing energy that is Negril, Jamaica.

The Jah Freedom Complex is located less than 1/4 mile away from Negril’s West End Road also known as One Love Drive Negril.

Jah Freedom has built its reputation over the past 14 years as one of Jamaica’s premier dub plate arrangement services, as well as a top notch recording facility for music production. We have built associations over the years with most of Jamaica’s top reggae and dance hall artistes. These relationships enable us to arrange fair prices and quality custom made dubs for our sound system and dee jay clients. Our new facility gives us the ability to offer international sound system clients to come to Negril and vacation while they have their dubs recorded in our facility. This unique vacation experience will facilitate high quality recordings with the top artistes in a relaxed setting.  Furthermore, the backdrop of Negril as a vacation destination adds to the whole vibe of coming to vacation while you enjoy the musical experience Jah Freedom offers.

The recording studio facilities (when completed) will feature analogue and digital recording formats, multiple voicing rooms, a large live band room for rehearsal and recording, and a mixing/mastering/voicing suite for recording over already recorded riddims (instrumentals). We will also offer our clients easy access to Jamaica’s top touring and recording musicians for their recording sessions.

The Jah Freedom grounds are landscaped with flowers and fruit trees native to all parts of the island.   At the entrance to the property a majestic Guango tree gives shade as well as a mystical calming feeling that captivates and inspires our visitors and guests.  At the back of the grounds, a diverse vegetable garden is constantly reaping fresh vegetables, herbs and seasonings  for the meals we serve our guests.  The peaceful energy of the property lends itself to musical inspiration with a country feeling that is unique in the Negril area.

The luxury guest rooms feature private bathrooms, comfortable beds, healthy home cooked meals, personalized maid service, access to a driver; or bicycle, car, or motorcycle/scooter rentals. Our chef specializes in healthy native cooking and most of our produce is grown right on our own property.  At the bottom of Westland Mountain the local fisherman bring fresh seafood every day which we carefully prepare for our clients and guests’ enjoyment.

Our guests can vacation here while they record their musical projects, or they can stay in the Negril area hotels and we will arrange for their transportation to come record in our facilities. Studio time can be arranged at hourly, daily or weekly block out rates and recording  packages which include accommodations and airport transfers can also be arranged.

The unique architecture was designed with large, comfortably appointed verandas, flowing spiral staircases, and an open and airy feeling for the freedom of artistic expression musicians require when creating their musical compositions. The large, comfortable, well equipped studios were designed for superior acoustics and efficient completion of musical production projects. The polygon shapes of the rooms at Jah Freedom add to the uniqueness of our concept and the feeling of being surrounded and filled up with musical vibes.

Our large roof deck terrace features a breathtaking  panoramic view of Negril and the surrounding tropical hills and mountains. The awesome scenery lends itself to musical inspiration that will allow Jah Freedom’s guests’ creativity to flow.
